SMA Turbo Diesel Engine SR 305-230

Fuel of the Future
Jet A is the new fuel of the future of General Aviation. That future is becoming a reality as several distributors have installed the SR305-230 engine on their aircraft and have made record flights.
These pioneers have surprised many FBOs as they called for Jet A to be put in their Cessna 182, Maule, or Piper Dakota. SMA and its partners are indeed striving to bridge the gap imposed by the imminent disappearance of AVGAS fuel in the general aviation market.

Our European distributors are now selling after having acquired the European STC in September 2003 making that dream of owning a newer, fuel efficient aircraft a possibility. In the United States, that dream is becoming a reality as we partner with distributors, OEMs, suppliers, government agencies, and STC developers across the nation. And as a team with the same vision, we work to share our expertise and bring this technology into your aircraft providing a safer and more economical powerplant for general aviation.

New Technology/Computer Controlled System
The operation of the SR305-230 engine relies on a true single power lever with an automatic control of the engine performance by an on board computer. This FADEC system greatly reduces pilot workload by eliminating the mixture and propeller controls, and ensures safe operation of the engine, providing optimum performances at all time.

This revolutionary electronic engine control links the pilot to the engine through a "fly by wire" system, from the power lever to the computer, to the engine sensors and the announciator panel.
This system successfully passed the most stringent tests imposed by the FAA in regard to lightning strike resistance and operation in high electromagnetic environment. In addition, SMA engines are equipped with a mechanical back-up system guaranteeing full operational capability of the engine even in case of total electrical failure. This feature is unique to SMA products, making our engine the safest, and most reliable and economical piston engine on the market.
